A. No inflammation
B. Inflammation
C. No bacterial penetration
D. Bacterial penetration

It is possible for the bacteria to infiltrate the dentinal tubule, by its over-5 micron-diameter. O-MTA, is 2 micron particle size average, can be grafted directly to the dentinal tubule. And it facilitate Hyroxy Apatite(HA) on the interfacial layer between O-MTA and canal wall, which has bio-compatible and even bio-active effect to the circumferential canal system. This interfacial layer bonds mechanically and chemically with time being, to enhance its sealability in the forming area.

O-MTA, Dentinal Wall and the Interfacial layer. MTA makes Calcium Apatite(CA), which is the precursor of HA, with phosphate ion. You can see the cleft formed during the drying sequence, which is essential in SEM analysis. It can be only seen between O-MTA and IL, not between IL and Dentine. This means, there is stronger bonding force between the IL and Dentine then IL and O-MTA.

A. SEM view shows interfacial layer is formed from OrthoMTA and short tag of CA structures
    in dentinal tubules.
B. X5000 , SEM view shows short tags of CA crystal structure.
Extracted teeth was grafted with OrthoMTA. SEM analysis was performed after soaking for 2 weeks SEM view shows Carbonate apatite crystal structures grow in dentinal tubules.
SEM analysis shows CA crytal structures from OrthoMTA grow in dentinal tubules. It seems that there are spaces between CA crystal structure and dentinal tubule. Empty space is peritubular dentines dissolved with NaOCl and EDTA treatment.
Extracted teeth was underfilled about 2mm with OrthoMTA. SEM analysis was perforemed after soaking for 72 hours. SEM view shows Carbonate apatite is formed at apical foramen area.
